Treat for July
Each month the Pet of the Month will appear here.

Please check back to see next month's Pet of the Month.
If there is one spot of sun
spilling onto the floor, a cat
will find it and soak it up.
~ Joan Asper McIntosh

The cat allowed itself to
become domesticated, not in
a desire to befriend man, but
because of man's
communities with the hordes
of rats and mice attracted by
their stores of food.

COOL TREATS

Do you enjoy a nice cold
bowl of ice cream at the
end of a hot summer day?
Your pet would also enjoy a
cool treat in celebration of
summer!

Both dogs and cats enjoy
plain yogurt with live
acidophilus cultures mixed
with a small amount of
peanut butter and frozen in
an ice cube tray or in a
small paper cup. (Remove
paper cup before serving.)
Serve in a bowl or
outdoors.

For dogs: put kibble-sized
dog food in an ice cube
tray. Fill with chicken broth.
Freeze and serve in bowl.

For cats: serve ice cubes
made by freezing a small
piece of cheese or other
favorite treat in water. Your
cat will lick and lick until she
gets at the treat.
Holiday Safety Tips of Pets

July the Fourth in the United States brings picnics, backyard
cookouts, family gatherings, and the sense of pride to be living in a
free country with so many privileges most other countires aren't
able to enjoy.  But for out pets, the Fourth is also a day of terrible
mishaps and even abuse related to fireworks.  Please keep your
pets indoors during the holiday and watch traffic at doorways.  The
sudden load noised and flashing colors can cause your pet to run
away in terror.  A carelessly thrown firecracker or other firework
could result in a disfiguring or maiming tragedy,

Supervise all candles - pets are attracted to the bright "lights" in a
darkened room.  Not only could they receive serious burns, but
they could knock the candles over, spilling hot wax onto furniture
and carpeting, Don't leave candles unattended for your pets sake
and for the obvious fire hazards.

BONES ARE DANGEROUS!
Please, please don't feed your pets bones, especially poultry
bones. Poultry bones splinter easily - each year thousands of pets
are treated for consumption of splintered bones, causing pain and
sometimes death.
